With the Aero 111 Tubeless tires, Continental, in collaboration with the aerodynamics experts from Swiss Side, has succeeded in optimally guiding the air along the rims. This is made possible by 48 so-called vortex generators, small precision-formed air chambers on the tread of the tire. These generate controlled turbulence, which ensures that the air flow sticks to the rim for longer and only stalls at large lateral flow angles. In practice, this not only results in a more aerodynamically efficient wheel and tire system, but also improves crosswind stability and steering stability. The Aero 111 was developed and aerodynamically optimized in combination with DT-Swiss ARC and ERC aero rims. However, the tires can also demonstrate their advantages on rims from other manufacturers. The carcass construction and rubber compound were largely adopted from Continental's high-end 5000 S TR racing tire. Thanks to only 2 fabric layers under the tread, the rolling resistance is extremely low and the tire can adapt perfectly to the surface. Thanks to the Vectran Breaker puncture protection layer and the grippy Black Chili tread, the reduced number of layers does not have a negative effect on puncture protection. Like spider silk, Vectran ™ is a liquid crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran ™ is spun from the molten liquid polymer Vectra and further processed into a multi-fiber yarn. Both spider silk and Vectran ™ have enormous tensile strength at very low weight. Higher puncture resistance and lower weight are the advantages of the Vectran breaker. Vectran is more cut-resistant than aramid, 5 times more tensile than steel and lighter than a nylon thread, without affecting rolling resistance. This makes it the ideal protective layer for tires.
