The first secret to the Thar’s success is that Fizik has given it extra-long rails. The longer rails make it possible for you to set your saddle in a position where you will be able to have a more compact forward sitting position, centering your knee directly over the pedal to afford greater power from each stroke. And don’t worry about the saddle being outside the UCI regulations for how far forward the nose of a saddle can be, since Fizik has been careful to design it so that you will have more than enough room to be behind the center line of the bottom bracket, should you want to slap this baby on and do some UCI-sanctioned events. As for the material used on the rails, here Fizik has incorporated their K:IUM technology. K:IUM is Fizik’s proprietary metal alloy, the exact formulation of which they understandably keep close to their chest. However, they have given it a tubular design and a particular finishing process that is intended to reduce potential fatigue of the rail surface. On top of that it offers an 8% weight reduction from the titanium rails we saw on earlier Fiziks, giving the k:ium rails an astounding strength to weight ratio.
